The Dallas Police Department suspended the practical exam
portion of the field sobriety testing program for some unknown length of time. The result of this was to place officers on the street who were arresting suspects for DUI when they lacked the proper training to do so.
As a Denver DUI attorney, one of the things that I always look at is the training that is provided to DUI enforcement officers. Why? Because when field sobriety tests are given to drunk driving suspects and are done so absolutely correctly according to national standards, they are at best roughly 80% accurate in determining who is intoxicated and who is not. That means that 1 in 5 sober people are arrested. In today's world, even the allegation of a DUI is enough for some people to lose much.
