Boating Under the Influence can have very real consequences
As a former paramedic on the Texas Gulf Coast, I've seen my share of tragedies. When summer boating is mixed with drinking, fatalities often result.
As such, law enforcement throughout Colorado increase their patrols of Colorado waterways and making arrests for boating under the influence (BUI). The legal consequences are similar to DUI. Defendants face up to one year in jail, a $1000 fine, and 96 hours of community service.
Of note, the owner or operator of the boat who knowingly allows their boat to be operated by someone who is under the unfluence is also guilty of a crime with similar penalties.
As you enjoy the wonderful summers that Colorado is known for, please do so safely and responsibly.
