New Mexico man faces unlucky 13th DUI arrest

A New Mexico man was arrested for the unlucky 13th time on charges of DUI.  He also has 6 prior DUI convictions.

The defendant had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath, thick speech and bloodshot watery eyes, and denied consuming any alcohol.  Police said he refused to take a field sobriety test or a breath test. He’s now charged with aggravated DUI.

In Colorado, this gentleman would be facing one year in county jail plus additional time for the likely probation violations on his prior convictions.  Prosecutors are worried about the lack of resources for alcohol addiction in situations like these where additional incarceration appears to not address the root of the problem.
