One good thing that will come from the tragedy in Ferguson, MO

Regardless of your feelings about the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, one likely improvement from the tragedy is a serious discussion about outfitting more police officers with body cameras.  Recently, the Denver police announced a plan to outfit 800 officers with cameras that will attach either to glasses or their uniform.  The program has been in the testing phase for the past few months but should be in full swing in 2015.

Body cameras are a great tool within the justice system.  It should allow for answers when allegations of police abuse are made.  It will introduce evidence of performance on field sobriety tests into courtrooms.  It will offer concrete evidence when a police officer must use deadly force.  Lawyers, judges, juries, and police administrators should all welcome this in their communities.
